GlobalFoundries Surges 16% on Strong Q4 Results, Upbeat Guidance, and $500M Buyback

March 2026 – Malta, N.Y. – GlobalFoundries (GF) saw its shares rally 16% in after-hours trading following the release of its fourth-quarter 2025 earnings, which topped analyst expectations on both revenue and profit. The company also announced a new $500 million share repurchase program, further fueling investor optimism.
Q4 Performance: Modest Top-Line Growth, Sharp Profit Expansion
GF reported fourth-quarter revenue of $1.83 billion, a marginal increase of $3 million year-over-year, yet still slightly above the consensus estimate. Non-wafer businesses—including chip design licensing and other services—accounted for approximately 12% of total sales.
While revenue growth was modest, profitability improved significantly. Adjusted net income for the quarter reached $310 million, up more than 20% from the same period in 2024, translating to adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.55—also beating market forecasts.
Structural Shift Toward High-Margin End Markets
The earnings beat was largely driven by stronger demand for higher-margin products. Four key segments—automotive, communications, infrastructure, and data centers—collectively contributed one-third of GF’s quarterly sales, a 5-percentage-point increase year-over-year. In contrast, the mobile chip business saw its revenue share drop by 13 percentage points.

Silicon photonics revenue more than doubled, exceeding $200 million. The company expects this business to grow by a similar multiple in 2026.

Applications include LiDAR components, various sensors, and fiber-optic network modules. Some startups are already using GF’s micro-photonics modules for chip-to-chip interconnects in data centers.
Strategic Investments and Capacity Expansion
In November 2025, GF acquired Advanced Micro-Fabrication Pte. Ltd., a Singapore‑based wafer foundry specializing in optical components for data center networking. The company plans to upgrade its 200mm production lines to 300mm wafers, enhancing its photonics capabilities.

Q1 2026 Guidance Tops Estimates
For the first quarter of 2026, GF guided revenue of $1.63 billion (at the midpoint) and adjusted EPS of $0.35, both modestly ahead of analyst projections of $1.61 billion and $0.34, respectively.
